Election Night Liveblog … 9:30 p.m.
#What seems clear by now is that the polls this campaign were extremely accurate. The New York Times poll that came out this weekend showed the Democrats with healthy leads in all of the swing states, and that has come to pass.
I just want to point out that Mark Halperin, the right wing stooge masquerading as an objective political journalist, has spent the last two days bloviating about “private polls” showing Republicans doing much better than the public polls indicate. He probably made it up.
Donald Trump was repudiated today. He has no ability to deny this or claim theft. He was smacked around, brutally. And I’m sure he’ll respond by being his normal petulant self, probably taking out his frustrations with a new round of bombing in Iran. And he’ll try to rule by fiat just as much as always.
But make no mistake: he has destroyed the Republican Party. The Democrats haven’t just taken both houses of Congress, they’ve won so thoroughly that they’ve guaranteed themselves a large enough governing majority to get a lot done in 2029 if they win the next Presidential election.
So it’s up to Republicans now … do you really want to keep riding this horse? Do you want to stake your futures on a deeply unpopular lame duck? Or is it time to finally throw in the towel and admit that this era has been a massive, destructive mistake.
