10. Eloquence
#I’ll keep this one short because it’s a simple point. Some of us were either born with or developed eloquence. If someone presses me to talk on a subject, I usually start talking and it comes out. It sometimes feels like the words just flow through me, but they somehow get voiced.
Having this quality is highly advantageous in life. I’m rarely tongue tied, although sometimes when I have a lot to say I stutter because I want to get it all out quickly. But even then, what I tend to say fits in the context of the conversation and doesn’t do me harm.
People make the mistake of believing that eloquent people are also knowledgeable and clever, and that’s not always the case. I sometimes have the urge to stop my listeners and point out that just because I expressed that last point well, it doesn’t make it correct. It could be well-spoken nonsense.
On the other hand, I tend to enjoy others who have this quality as well, so I’m just as susceptible to the charms of eloquence. It frustrates me when people cannot put their thoughts to words well.
So, I don’t know how to resolve this. Maybe I would like a world with more easy, free flowing thoughts, where eloquence is so common that we take it for granted and don’t fall under its magic spell, so we can then focus on the content and intention.
